From 1997 to 2000, the Sacred Clowns terrorized New York City nightclubs and theaters in the Giuliani era with their unique improvised comic rock, mixing dance grooves with downtown's most outrageous spoken word artists, including Johnny McGovern ("The Gay Pimp"), Victor Varnado (The Black Albino), Katherine Chronis (Get Naked), Hank Flynn (Reverend Hank), voodoolulu and special guests.

Singing was handled by Chemda ("Conjure One"), Ray West ("Spread Eagle") and Raven Solano. The band featured the grown-up child prodigy Beau Mansfield and Guiliani's arch nemesis Christopher X. Brodeur on Sabotage Guitar, along with some of New York's quickest musicians, including David McKeel ("Voodoolulu"), Jim Melloan, David Jenness, Robert Pinnock, and Graham McSorley.

Every song is improvised from start to finish, often from audience suggestions, and live performances always evoked laughter, tears, anger and delight - often within the same song.
